Founded in 1947 in Chicago by Sigmund H. Danziger, Homak Manufacturing was originally a manufacturer of steel kitchen cabinets. However, in the 1960s, the company expanded its product offerings to include a separate line of hardware products such as toolboxes, tool cabinets, and various accessories. This hardware line quickly gained popularity and was well received by major retail businesses at the time.

After Sigmund's passing in 1979, his wife, Gertrude, took over the company and successfully led it for 25 years. Under Gertrude's direction, Homak further diversified its product line to include automotive, hospital, and sporting goods. In January 2005, Homak was acquired by JVA and relocated to western Pennsylvania, where it now operates from the Wampum Underground Commerce Center.
